Format Guidelines
A cash memo is the bill a shopkeeper gives when goods are sold for cash on the spot. It works as the sale record for the shop and the purchase proof for the customer.
What a cash memo should show
- Shop name, address and phone (NTN / STRN if registered)
- Memo number and date
- Customer name (and phone for home delivery or warranty items)
- Item, quantity, unit, rate and amount
- Total, discount, cash received and change returned
- Signature of the person who received the cash
Cash memo vs sales tax invoice
A cash memo does not show sales tax. If you are registered for sales tax and the buyer needs input tax, issue a sales tax invoice under section 23 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 instead. Tier-1 retailers must issue invoices through FBR's POS system.
